I got some really, really bad tax advice when I first started my business. My first year in business, I worked really hard to pay my employees (not myself) and at the end of the year I also had a tax bill. Not only that, I had no idea about payroll and payroll taxes. Finally, I found a qualified tax professional who KNEW business and answered my questions immediately because business tax issues for lawyers was what SHE handled. I thought I could not afford to hire a qualified tax professional for advice, yet I paid for it anyway in penalties and in taxes. If I had sought sound advice at the beginning, I would have saved myself thousands (no joke) of dollars (that I worked really hard for) and the bald spot on my head (from ripping my hair out being confused by payroll). I cannot stress how important it is to get a qualified tax professional on your team now before the tax season starts.
