Wait for the signature – NOTHING is that urgent

I represented the nicest construction guy ever. Unfortunately, he was too nice. When he was on a job and on Friday at 5 p.m. when the project manager asked for him to have his crew work the weekend for a change order he would do it. Invariably, on Monday after the work was completed and he asked for a signed written change order to memorialize the extra work and the increase in cost, he would be told that it was not authorized. If the project manager REALLY, REALLY needs it done over the weekend, he or she can find someone on Friday to sign the change order to authorize the work. If you do work without the terms in writing, you risk not getting paid or having to spend money on having an attorney fight to get you paid.
